Food: Traditional Greek pastries, salads, sandwiches etc. Our original choices weren't available, slightly disappointed with one of the alternatives. Dessert was AMAZING.

Drink: Coffee's and soft drinks, juices etc.

Service: Friendly staff but no table service which was a shame as the people queing to order crowded the shop. Not somewhere to go if in a hurry.

Atmosphere: The cute cafe is wonderfully decorated, we loved the family photos behind the counter. It's buzzing, but a little more crowded than cosy.

Per Head: $25

To Summarise.....

Boucla

We headed to Boucla, a Greek cafe at the top end of Rokeby Road, Subiaco.

We loved the decor - rustic homages to the Greek culture were everywhere.

It was buzzing, full of hungry people looking for a light lunch or some delicious sweets.

Boucla do not offer table service (or menu's beside those behind the counter) so the tiny shop quickly fills with patrons lining up to order, who often take their time as they decide what to eat. The small space quickly became crowded rather than cosy.

We asked for a vegetable fritatta and Papoutski (eggplant topped with mince meat) but both had run out which was very disappointing, especially because we arrived smack-on-lunctime at 12.30. Instead we got the vegetable tart and Persian Slipper (slow cooked beef, potato and pumpkin in puff pastry). We also ordered a small greek salad to share.

The vegetable tart  - $13 was full of an array of vegetables, it was good but lacked flavour, we had to add salt.

The Persian Slipper pastry - $17 was really great. The pastry was a little dry on the ends, but the filling (slow cooked beef, potatoes and sweet potato in persian spices) was delicious. The yoghurt was a perfect accompaniment.

At this point during the meal things took a little turn for the worse - the man next to us (who came much later) was served two plates of the Patoutski! The very dish we were denied eariler! And what was extra annoying is that it looked (and smelled) absolutley amazing.

Our greek salad still hadn't arrived, we asked the waiter and he informed us there was no greek salad left. Disappointed again, he refunded our money.

And with that money we bought dessert  ... :)

Lucky for Boucla, the cakes were a redeeming point! Plum cake - YUM, this was delicious. Sweet and moreish with a light fluffy base.

White chocolate cake with strawberries - also extremely delicious, would recommend for those with a big sweet tooth!

So besides the desserts, a rather dissapointing lunch! We would definately recommend you get in early before the food runs out, and always think of Boucla if your looking for a coffee and something sweet after lunch!

Love - forladieswholunch xx

When I went back inside to order dessert there was a big serving of greek salad sitting in their front fridge! Very strange!
